The title tag (of HTML) refers to the element in the header that allows the developer to create a title for the document. This title is used for pages that link to the web page, including search engines and users' bookmarks / favorites list. The title needs to be very descriptive in order to encourage users to click-through to the webpage. The title should not be confused with heading tags within the page, the are viewed by the user on the page. The title does not actually appear on the page. The title tag can be considered similar to the subject header of an e-mail in terms of its utility and function. Using a couple of keywords in your title tag can help boost the page's search engine ranking for those keywords.
